We couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to the fabulous wines of Domaine Sérol, the foremost producer in the Côte Roannaise, some 60 miles north-west of Lyon. The dominant grape here is Gamay Saint Romain, a Gamay clone notable for its small berries (prone to millérandage) and spicy character. With its granite bedrock, the terroir of the Roannaise resembles the Beaujolais Cru, but the climate is slightly cooler – a real boon in warmer vintages.
Certified-biodynamic, Sérol’s range includes the mouth-watering Eclat de granit, numerous single-parcel reds, a delightfully fresh Viognier and the outstanding off-dry sparkling Turbullent. These are wines of tremendous energy and character from a region on the up and up.
