- Country France
- Region Loire Valley
- Sub-region Sancerre
Today managed by Roger’s sons, Claude and Laurent (6th generation vignerons), this domaine amounts to 22 hectares in Crezancy, one of the most southerly communes in Sancerre. Crezancy enjoys a relatively warm micro-climate, and the soils here are primarily Terres Blances and Caillottes.
The spritely and approachable Les Pierris hails from vines of an average 30 years old from numerous sites around the domaine. Clos du Roy, which is also unoaked, is from forty year-old vines in the eponymous south-facing vineyard lying next to the famous Chêne Marchand. An early-ripening parcel, it produces a wine that’s generous on the mid-plate, with subtle tropical notes leading to a cleansing, saline finish.
We recommend both wines purely for their quality but also, as prices has rised dramatically in Sancerre, because they represent great value for money.
