Domaine Coudert’s holdings centre on the 9 hectare Clos de La Roilette in Fleurie, named after the favourite racehorse of a former owner of the Clos. Owing to the soil, rich in clay and manganese, the wine made here is more concentrated (and age-worthy) than most from Fleurie, but it also boasts the lifted aromatics and freshness that are hallmarks of the appellation. It is vinified in classic Cru Beaujolais fashion: 100% whole cluster fermentation in an open tank, beneath a submerged cap of skins, prior to ageing in old oak foudres of at least 600 Litres.
