Yves Confuron has been running his family domaine for almost 20 years now, whilst somehow managing to find the time to also run Domaine de Courcel in Pommard. He hasn’t changed a huge amount since he took over from his father, Jacky. The domaine is blessed with some great plots and lots of old vines. Yves is generally one of the later vignerons to begin picking as he is keen for his bunches to reach maximum phenolic ripeness. One reason for this is that he doesn’t destem. His father once explained, very simply, that the reason he didn’t destem was that he didn’t have a destemmer! The wines don’t see much new oak but do spend around 18 months in barrel before being assembled and bottled about three months later. Stylistically they tend to need a fair amount of time before hitting their stride and really reward long term ageing. The jewel in the crown, aside from the GCs, is the 2 hectare parcel of Vosne Suchots, which is always an impressive wine.
