A cornerstone of Flint’s portfolio, Château Pesquié continues to go from strength to strength under the dynamic stewardship of Alex and Frédéric Chaudière. It is entirely fitting that our friend Fred should be president of the appellation given Pesquié’s status as one of its biggest and certainly most ambitious estates.
The château itself is located in Mormoiron, amongst the foothills of Mount Ventoux, whose snow-topped peak towers majestically over the surrounding vineyards. Ventoux is just 50km from Châteauneuf, but has a significantly cooler climate, which is evident in the perfume and sheer finesse of the château’s wines.
Pesquié’s extensive range begins with the single-varietal Paradou wines: made from bought-in fruit, they are organic-certified and massively over-deliver at this price point. Next up are Les Terrases white, rosé and red – blended from the many distinctive varietals grown locally – and the more powerful, complex Quintessence trio. A tasting here culminates with the extraordinary single-vineyard wines; cerebral yet sensual vins de garde that express the nuances and enormous potential of Ventoux’s terroirs.
