Champagne Valentin Leflaive was founded in 2015 as a subsidiary of Puligny’s Maison Olivier Leflaive. The concept was to bring a Burgundian sensibility to bear on the chalk soils of the Côte des Blancs. All three wines listed below are Blanc de Blancs, and all are Extra Brut. The range begins with CV 18 30 – a cryptic name but one that’s easily deciphered: the grapes hail from Cramant (Grand Cru) and Vertus (Premier Cru); the base year is ’18 and dosage is 3.0g. The two Grand Cru wines represent, respectively, the unique terroir of Avize and Le Mesnil sur Oger. Fermented in stainless steel for maximum freshness, the Champagnes age for 34 to 42 months sur lattes depending on cuvee. Wines of transparency, minerality and laser-like focus, these are a thrilling addition to Flint’s portfolio.
