Matthew Fioretti took charge at this iconic (yes, an overused word, but one that applies here) estate in 2015. He has since overseen an extensive replanting program and construction of a new, state of the art cellar, all in the name of crafting polished, energetic wines acutely expressive of Cerbaiona’s stellar terroir. Matthew favours shorter macerations than his predecessor, Diego Molinari, and – in contrast to many Brunello producers – has increased the ratio of smaller barrels to casks in the cellar.
Today is an opportunity to taste Matthew’s exquisite 2019 Brunello, of which we have just a handful of cases remaining following a successful pre-shipment offer in February. Equally exciting are Matthew’s IGTs, which showcase the immense potential of Bordeaux varietals in select Tuscan sites. The IGT project began with a single wine, Casaglia, in 2018, but today includes no fewer than three wines bottled under the M.L.Fioretti label, plus the brand new Grammatica, a seamless blend of Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Merlot grown at Cerbaiona itself.
