Cascina Penna-Currado is a brand new estate established by Elena Penna and Luca Currado, the former owners of Vietti Winery.
The winery itself is housed in the newly-restored 16th century Cascina Lazzarito, in Serralunga d’Alba. Penna-Currado’s holdings consist of 7 hectares of Barolo, 2.5 hectares of Timorasso, and 13 hectares in San Sebastiano, just outside the Barolo zone.
While their inaugural Barolo wines, including two single vineyard wines and one blend, will be released in 2027, the first releases of Dolcetto D’Alba Bricco Lago, Langhe Nebbiolo Bricco Lago and Timorasso Derthona (all 2023 vintage) are available now, exclusively from Flint. A Barbera d’Alba and Nebbiolo d’Alba, which undergo longer ageing in the cellar, will follow in the spring.
Across the board, the wines are bright and expressive, made with a high proportion of whole-bunch and partially raised in concrete for maximum freshness. They were recommended to us by none other than Jeremy Seysses of Domaine Dujac, a close friend of Elena and Luca, and long-term admirer of their wines.
Cascina Penna-Currado is a thrilling addition to the firmament of star producers in Flint’s Italian portfolio.
